Winter Sports

The cold months are some of my favorite ones of the year. This is mainly because I run hot overall, but the frost and snow also mean the start of several of my favorite sports seasons. I began my sports media career bundled up and trekking through the snow to Bird Ice Arena, and I haven’t looked back since.

Hockey is where I got my start covering sports. I had written a total of two sports stories prior to hopping on the D1 hockey beat, and I had never tried sports photography before I started bringing my camera to matches. I am so glad I was given the opportunity bring my editorial experience to Bird Ice Arena, and I can’t think of a better place to have sharpened my photography skills.

Women’s basketball is facing a surge in popularity thanks to the immense success of stars such as Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese and Paige Bueckers. Ohio University’s women’s basketball team may not make it to a national tournament — the Bobcats were 6-23 in the 2024-25 season — but they are certainly fun to photograph.
